Spiritual Intimacy in the Bedroom
Our minds are constantly thinking, feeling, analyzing information, and experiencing emotions on a deeper level. Christ says to renew our minds, which is a mighty huge process, that is constantly taking place as new and old thoughts and feelings collide and come to the surface.
When two people are tending to this chore in their own minds, (because let me tell you… (IT IS A CHORE, when you do it wholeheartedly!), it can however be the difference between a marriage that thrives and one that struggles.
Specific to our sexual union, TWO renewed minds lead to thoughtful, sensitive lovers, who are more likely to find sexual fulfillment rather than just going through the motions. This is the type of intimacy both spiritually, emotionally and sexually that is AMAZING!
I think many of us seek this type of intimacy, but we don’t communicate it to our spouse. Many think it does not exist or haven’t seen nor experienced this type of intimate form of love. What happens is that we suddenly wake up, and realize the marriage that we are in is one of despair and un-fulfillment.
We must recognize that if we are not honest and aware of our past, then we lose control of our mind which then impacts our sexual and intimate union. Talk about these stories. Share them with your spouse. Achieve emotional connections through the understanding that we have all journeyed through a past whether it be abusive, hurtful, explosive or nurturing. An awareness of how we grew up is crucial to understanding our present relationships.
(Romans 12: 1-2) I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
1. Every one of us is a product of our past
2. We want to understand our past because we DO NOT want it to control us.
